We noticed today that a couple of custom fields disappeared from the Create screen. After researching we saw that they had no context. So we added a context to add them to all screens globally. Now the fields appear, but one - a single select picklist - has no values in the list and all of the existing history is gone also. Any ideas as to what happened and how to recover?
I had to have Atlassian Support add the default context back to the custom field, then I re-typed all of the options, and used the CSV import to put the values back into the historical issues. Still not sure why the default context disappeared or why it looks like someone tried to add a new custom field with the same name as an existing custom field.
Hi @Rick Brooks
Please try a re-index , it should work correctly. Also, please go through the below link to configure custom fields,

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the link below but I do not get the options as described in the instructions. When I go to the Field Configuration page I do not get a choice to select the Default configuration.
I'm a little concerned about re-indexing, because to me it appears that somehow a new custom field with the same field name as mine has been added to my project. At different places in the admin screens the field's description is different, which makes me think there are two fields with the same name.

Asha - I appreciate your answer; the documentation helped me to find the issue, but I could not resolve it. I needed to contact Atlassian support to get a resolution.
