Hello Everyone,
we have a issue hierarchy in Jira cloud like
Epic --> story,task,bug--> subtask.
But due to a Project Broadscope we want to create a custom hierachy for our project like
Epic--> Feauture-->story, task, bug--> Subtask.
i know we can do this through issue hierachy but i want to do this for specific project. will that be possible? there are some plugins like structure,hierachy for Jira which will be useful for my requirement.. But my organization can't purchase plugins at the moment. so any free plugins or any alternatives for this? please treat this as emergency
Since you mentioned that you are also looking for plugins, you may want to try our app
With the help of Jira issue links, the app can help you create your own custom hierarchy. You can link any issue type above and below Epics and the app will display it in a tree view with roll ups of time tracking, story points and number fields. This will help to track allocated work at each parent level. The app is free upto 10 users.
(Disclaimer: I work on RVS, the vendor for this app)
Hi @sai chinamuthevi ,
I see you are on Jira Cloud Free.
If you move to Jira Cloud Premium you can build you custom hierarchy and visualise it in Plans...but if you don't have a budget at all for addons you might not have a budget for changing the plans either.
You have to accept to work with issue links or explore these free apps on the topic of hierarchies.
best of luck

Hi Lisa,
Thanks a lot for reply. I'm good to purchase Jira cloud Premium. Infact I'm on it but in cloud you have option to create custom hierarchy but it will be applicable to all the projects in entire instance right? But my ask is i want to do this only for my project, i don't want to disturb other project structures.. will this be possible if I take Premium version with out purchasing any additional plugins? if yes please let me know.
I can't purchase premium version of Jira and any additional plugins at a time.

Hi!
In Jira Cloud Premium the plans functionality lets you organise the issues in a hierarchy. Even though the levels of the hierarchy is configured globally it doesn't mean all projects needs to use the same issue types or even use a longer hierarchy than the standard three layer Epic > Story > Subtask
you set a global name to the Level and then link issue types to it
one project might want Goal > Epic > Task > Subtask
Another one Initiative > Epic > Story > Subtask
Initiative and Goal can share "Level 1" position

From advance roadmap, you can create Hierachy above epic level, that's right.. But can we create Hierarchy below epic level? in my case as i mention Epic--> Feauture-->story, task, bug--> Subtask.
This is what we need.. Epic will be the top most but we want different Hierarchy in standard issue types

Hi @sai chinamuthevi ,
You can actually change name of the epic nowadays, so you can get a fully customised hierarchy. Note that issue type names is a global configuration, affecting everyone

you may already know that Jira Premium allows additional hierarchy levels, however these hierarchy levels are always only on top of epics. Adding something below epics is possible, but tricky - see this thread for a thorough discussion on the matter.
You will see in the linked discussed that the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira, would be a great fit for your use case. I understand that you are currently on a free plan in your Jira site; in this case, JXL is also 100% free (and always will be, as long as you stay on a free Jira plan).
This is how it looks in action for a hierarchy configuration very similar to yours:
Custom issue hierarchies in JXL always belong to a particular sheet, meaning that can easily model your hierarchy without affecting other projects.
Any questions just let me know,
Best,
Hannes
