Hi,
I have created a custom field called "Customer" and am using this across several projects in my jira cloud instance. It is a label type field, so if someone has written a new Customer name it can be reused across the projects.
When I created the field I also added a description: "Begin typing to find and create Customer or press down to select a suggestion." quite similar to the ordinary "label" description: "Begin typing to find and create labels or press down to select a suggested label."
The problem I have now is that since some time back I have double descriptions all of a sudden! It was not like this in the beginning when I configured the screens in the first place a year back. I can't tell when it started to show up, and I have tried to hunt all field configurations down to find where the "original" text appears, but I can't find it!!
This is annoying and looks bad, see picture:
This field is heavily used, so I can't re-create it without loosing important data.
How do I get rid of the first sentence? Where can I look more?
I tried also to empty the description in the field configurations used to only have the "label" description showing to not have a double line, but when I empty the description field (like deleting or have just a space as description) the text "Begin typing to find and create Customer or press down to select a suggestion." keeps popping up AGAIN!
Please help.
Hi Madelen,
Take a look at the field configuration for that project and see what the value is in the description for the field.
It is only "Begin typing to find and create Customer or press down to select a suggestion."

I tried with that; I cannot leave it empty. If I update the description in the project specific field configuration with no text (either just remove the text completely so description is empty or add a single whitespace), the
"Begin typing to find and create Customer or press down to select a suggestion."
is appearing again in the description field.

It's probably time to go ahead and create a support ticket with Atlassian:

Yes, I will create a support ticket. I have checked the configurations now several times, but that extra line cannot be found anywhere so that would be my only option. Thanks a lot for answering my issue!

Hi @Madelen Smedenteg . Can you share the URL to the issue you created? I have the same problem.
Thank you! :)

Hi @Ingo Mohr
I create a support issue but not sure they are visible for everyone except me. But the answer I got was that is it not possible to remove the text on custom fields. A workaround would be to change my text to "Each label is created using the Customer name" then the full description of the field would be:
"Begin typing to find and create labels or press down to select a suggested label. Each label is created using the Customer's name."
There is an improvement that you can vote for here as well JRACLOUD-45529.
Have a nice day! :)

Thank you @Madelen Smedenteg for sharing the issue link and the update! :)
I added myself as both watcher and voter - and people who read this discussion entry can do that too, now. :)
(In that issue (which is for Cloud) there's an issue link for Jira Server, too)
Have a great day!
