Dashboard with epics progress for stories in current sprint

Varsha Patil February 1, 2025

1. I would like to have dashboard for management with a view where all epics in progress in a sprint are displayed and their overall epic progress is displayed.

2. At the same time I would also like to have epics progress for the stories in that particular sprint?

Hi @Varsha Patil ,

Several questions to answer before coming up with possible solutions:

 1. does the management use Jira? Or you need to be able present/have this dashboard available with no Jira access or as a snapshot/file?

 2. how do you estimate your tasks/stories in the epics? Is it time estimation and/or story points?

 3. how do you define progress? Hours logges, issues completed, story points delivered, ... ?

 4. can you use Marketplace apps or export data to BI tools like Power BI?

Hi,

1. Management do use Jira, they have access t Jira.

2. Stories are estimated in story points, tasks and stories in sprint are time estimated too.

3.Overall progress is based on story points completed.

4. We are at present not using Marketplace apps or powerbi, need to check on this.

Thank you for the clarification.

If we are talking about default Jira reporting, it's quite limited frankly. You can create a dashboard with some info, but it won't be easy to read.

Exporting to or syncing with a tool like Google Spreadsheets will make it possible to come with pretty much super custom/tailored report. It will be quite easy to do roll ups like Story Points in completed issues and time tracking info aggregated.

Another approach would be something @Danut M _StonikByte_ mentioned: use an app from the Marketplace  that is designed to provide an easy way to get the info needed. Basically, the app we develop was created to cover that necessity:

You can play with this demo report on your own: https://demo.colined.com/plugins/servlet/pr/report?report=180

We can schedule a call to go over it if needed.

Hi @Varsha Patil

If you are open to try out a mktplace app for this requirement, do take a look at

Issue Hierarchy

The shows Epic Hierarchy and progress at each parent level with option to add the app as a dashboard gadget too.

(Disclaimer: I work for RVS, the vendor for this app)

Hi @Varsha Patil,

As far as I  know, Jira does not have a gadget for displaying epic progress. There is a feature request for this, but not addressed yet: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-9049

My advice is to search on Atlassian Marketplace for an app that provides a gadget capable to do this.

In case you want to try a plugin, our Great Gadgets app offers all you need for tracking your epics by count of stories, total story points or percentage of completion.

Have a look over this article: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/App-Central-articles/How-to-display-the-progress-of-Epics-or-Initiatives-in-Jira-or/ba-p/2858840
