Date Format Issue

Monika Jaisingh August 8, 2019

Hello

We tried changing the date format for our JIRA CLOUD version, but due to some issues we had to undo the changes. Due to all this, the dates showing on our Reports and Filters are not messed up.  Although the dates at the task/subtask levels are showing correctly. Its just that now our reports are NOT at all useful.

Is there a way to fix this?

Please advise.

Thanks'

Hello Monika,

It seems that the current look and feel of your JIRA instance is misconfigured, causing the displaying of the dates to be wrong although your issue picker is properly set.

To properly configure the way your date/time fields are displayed in JIRA, you can perform the steps below:

  1. Choose the Jira icon (, or ) > Jira settings > System
  2. Under USER INTERFACE, select Look and feel.
  3. In the Date / time formats section, set all formats with their original default values, like in the screenshot below:

Let me know if these steps fixed your issue.

@Petter Gonçalves thanks a lot it did fix the issues. Now the reports and dashboards are working as expected.

Additionally, if I have to change the default (YYYY/MM/DD) date format to MM/DD/YYYY then I guess I will have to change the settings at Advance level as well as Look and feel level correct?

Also, are there any know issues with regards to date formatting at project and at report level that you can share ? So that we are not messing anything unknowingly.

Many thanks.

Hello Monika,

I'm glad to know my instructions have helped you.

Just to give you more context and properly answer your question:

The Advanced settings under general configuration is where you can set the format which the user should use when adding a date to a date picker field, while the Look and feel is where you can set how the date will be displayed once the user submits the date. It is not required to have both with the same value, however, it is a good practice to avoid confusion and questions like "Why I am adding 2019/08/01 and it is appearing like 01/08/2018?".

Additionally, there shouldn't be any problems in changing the format from the default (YYYY/MM/DD) to MM/DD/YYYY. This is a very common changing and should work just fine for your instance.

About any other issues regarding this matter, I'm not aware of anything about this, but I would avoid using special characters to define the separators (Like 01*08*2019) since it is rendered in JAVA language and might not work. Anyway, it can be easily undone by switching back to the default values in case any problem happens. :)

Let me know if you have any other questions and have a nice start of week!
