Dear all,
I don't know if the question has been already discuss, in case I'm so sorry on creating a new one.
I am trying to replicate the hierarchical structure and dependencies I have on a project in MS Project using Tasktop's automatic connection.
Creating individual Issues is not a problem and neither is replicating the hierarchical structure (parent, child, ...) directly into "Structure" using the "Automation".
The problem concerns time dependencies (ie: start after end of X, ...).
Can these be replicated using the Tasktop automation? Alternatively, can I replicate them automatically to the "Structure" by setting up Automations to set up the dependencies? How do I set the dependencies directly on the individual Issues?
Thank you in advance for the support.
regards
Amedeo
Hi Amedeo,
First I should mention I work for ALM works, the makers of Structure.
I can't speak to how Tasktop works, but your assertion is correct that you could set this up with automation in Structure. It would be an extend generator very similar to the parent child hierarchy you mention. The main difference is you would point it to the "has to be done before X" link type.
Then comes the question of how to set these relations up on the individual issues. If the links do not exist then adding this generator would not affect the hierarchy of the structure, because it has no links to follow. If we create these links on the issue details page (or anywhere else), the relationships will start showing in structure. You could also drag issues into the board to create the links via drag and drop, however if you have multiple extenders (such as parent child and has to be done before), structure might ask you to clarify which link type you are trying to create with drag and drop.

Hi Nick,
thank you for the answer!!!
I tried to follow your suggestion but I can't realized the final step (automatic create the dependencies link in the structure).
That's what I did:
- in a sub-task I created the "has to be done before" link with another Task
- in the Structure I selected the Automation "Gantt Dependency: parent has to be done before children" but I'm not sure is the right one because there's Parent-Child link between the tasks
- As results, of course, no dependencies links are created in the Gantt chart
Where is the mistake?
Thank you again for the support.
Amedeo

Hi Amedeo,
This looks correct to me. The one thing that might cause this to not work is if the extender is not set to the correct levels. The default is all levels up to 10, but if it was set to levels 1-2, it wold not show the relationship as the linked sub task is on level 4.
If that does not solve the problem, please reach out to our support team at support@almworks.com
Cheers,
Nick
