When I direct message someone using the JIRA cloud slack integration, I see the direct message history for that user (i.e. conversations with other people).

Has anyone seen this issue?

Hey Lisa,

I am not totally clear on the behavior you're seeing. Can you confirm these assumptions?

  1. You're logged in with your personal user account to Slack
  2. You're trying to get notifications from Jira, via direct message from the Jira Cloud app in Slack
  3. When interacting with the Jira Cloud app in Slack, you are getting unintended messages

If you feel comfortable providing a screenshot circling messages you don't think you should be getting (blank out any names and sensitive info of course), that would help me understand what you're seeing.

More generally, it's possible you're just getting all notifications from the Jira project. Sometimes the notifications can be set up in a way different from what we'd expect to receive inside Jira! As an example, I subscribed to a project without any qualifiers, and I'm getting notifications when people assign or transition issues in Jira that I'm not specifically watching.

With an example of a notification you didn't expect to see, I think we can track down where the notifications are coming from.

Thanks,
Daniel

Daniel - I have been working with Lisa on this. The specific behavior is:

  • Open an issue in Jira Cloud
  • Select "Create a Channel" under Slack Integration
  • Select Direct Message and click Create

What happens is that the DM channel that is opened shows the other users current DM history from their personal channel. This is a security problem because a person's personal channel may have a lot of information not relevant to this specific issue.
