Do roles (with a group added) assigned to projects take over later added groupmembers automatically?

I have read much about this topic but it's still not a hundret percent clear for me.

I got a group in Jira. I have defined one role and added this group as default member to the role. Now I assign this role with the default group to a project. So far, so good.

Now If I add a new member to the group, logically I'd think, that the person is inherited to the role's default group automatically.

Group -> Role -> Project = Group -> Project

But I tried this and the person hasn't been added.

I noticed, that when I first added the group to the role, the members within the group had been added visually to the "added Users" field of the role next to it. So it seems that not the group itself is added to the role (when adding a group to the role) but the single members inside this group.

So if I later add a person to the existing group, which is part of a existing role, the person is not added to the role, because actually not the group itself was added but the single users.

Is this right?

Hi @Luca Edler,

it should work just as you expect.

If you have a role in in permission scheme and if you assign a group to that role, all members of that group will get that permission, no matter if they were already members when assigning the group to the role or not.

But you will not see it in the Users & Roles Screen, when you add members to a group later, as the new group members will not (and do not have to) be added as users explicit.

So if it does not work as expected, please check if the group is assigned to the role, if the role is used correct in the permission scheme and if the user is correct assigned to the group.

Hello,

That is strange that if you added a group to a role, the users of this group were added to the added Users. It does not work like this. If you add a group to a role, then the group appears in the group part for the role. If you add a user to this group, then this user will also inherit permissions from the role, to which the group connected. It will be done automatically.

I had this behaviour last week and just tried it again. Now it works as aspected...

When I add a group, just the group appears. Last weak, the group appeared in the right group-table and automatically it's members on the left in the users-table.
