Either add a custom field to summary or have the title include an extra field

My company has JIRA Server 7.4. What I'm looking to do for a certain project is have it so when we open the Board and look at the Backlog to see a list of Issues there, we want the "title" of the tickets to also include a custom field. For example, the issues currently display like this which I believe is the system default

PJR-1 "Summary"

But we'd like them to display like this

PJR-1 "Summary" "Custom field"

Is there a simpler way to implement this without getting into scripting?

I am not sure in what version this feature was introduced, but  you should to the board settings -> card layout and you will be able to add fields to backlog cards:

If you do not have this feature, then there is no easy way to do it.
