Enforce story points on User Story when starting sprint

Marcel Stegehuis April 10, 2025

How can I enforce story points on User Stories when starting a sprint?

Or maybe when the US is transitioned from the backlog to the sprint backlog.

Hi @Marcel Stegehuis

Welcome to the community.

You could at a validator to the workflow transition based on field required in a transition.

You can't have a validation or condition based on sprint scheduling, like the options you mention.

Validation and conditions can be done on the workflow only.

But process wise this should be the responsibility of the scrum master, to have this checked before starting a sprint.

Problem with the Validator / Condition  is that I can not differentiate between different issue types (User Story or bugs).

But it is what we currently use.

HI @Marcel Stegehuis

The solution for this is to create different workflows for the issue types and then you can set variation on conditions/validations in the workflow, as the flow is related to a single issue type.
