Did you mean:

Ensure external users should not have access to other projects

Kapil Podduturi September 3, 2021

Requirements:

External users should only have access to the projects added.

Steps I do:

  1. Add the user to our JIRA instance.
  2. Team specific Projects - Navigate to Project settings -> Access -> Add user to the project.
  3. Company-specific Projects - Navigate to Project settings -> People -> Add user to the project.

If more than 1 user then, create a group, add users to that group and add the group to projects using the above steps.

I have seen documentation and comments about using permissions and groups, just wanted to make sure I did not miss anything.

Thank you.

Edit: (not sure if helps)

Please note that all the projects have 'Default Software Scheme' as the Permission Scheme and in that Permission scheme, all the permissions are granted to Project Roles.

And Project roles do not have any default members.

Hi @Kapil Podduturi

this is a common request and I'd like to share a post from earlier this year where Anthony summarized perfectly the needed steps to achieve the desired.

You can work with roles and/or groups - you have the flexibility here. Roles are generally preferred over groups unless there is some special intention.

In case you are struggling at any point it might make sense to create a new post. Changing content is often somewhat tricky as the context tends to be hard to understand - additionally, after some days there the is risk that not so many Community members are looking over a question which is some days old.

Regards,
Daniel

No, changing permissions does not affect the  data.

Best way to think of it is that permissions are read only when looking to see if someone can do something.  They don't go onto issues, and the history of permissions has no effect on what you're doing now.

Thanks, Nic for the reply. But I had to edit the question and change it as it got copied from my previous question. Could not find how to delete it so used the same one.
