Enterprise version skip

jirajester September 23, 2019

Hi there,
We are currently planning to upgrade per the Security advisories.
Current versions on the same application
JIRA 7.10.1 -> 7.13.8
JSW 7.10.1 -> 7.13.8
JSD 3.13.1 -> 3.16.8

In planning, i noticed that we skipped enterprise versions from the past:
JSW - we missed 7.6 (went from 7.50 to 7.9.0)
JSD - we missed 3.9 (went from 3.8.1 to 3.12.0)

Should we back track and downgrade to pick up the changes, or are the changes already included in future releases?

current version histories:
JSW: 3.7-beta 1, 4.3.4, 7.0.11, 7.1.9, 7.2.5, 7.2.6, 7.3.0, 7.4.1, 7.5.0, 7.9.0, 7.10.1
JSD: 3.2.4, 3.3, 3.5, 3.8.1, 3.12.0, 3.13.1

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hey there!

All features and bugfixes are included in the most recent releases. They're incremental and you can jump up multiple minor versions at once without worrying about having to do multiple upgrades.

Upgrading to 7.13 as you outlined is a good plan. You don't need to worry about going back down to a previous version, and in fact Jira will even work to prevent you from downgrading.

I wouldn't wait to upgrade to 7.13 so that you get the security fixes for the advisory. But I do want to give you a heads-up that the next Enterprise release will be 8.5 and we're expecting it to be released in Q4 this year.

Cheers,
Daniel
