Epic accumulated logged time

Hi,

I have a project with Epic under it Stories, Tasks and Subtasks (hierarchized).

I would like the Epic to reflect the accumulated time of all Stories, which would reflect the accumulated time of Tasks and so on.

Is there a way to define that in the relation between all of them.

It does work out-of-the-box in the Task-Subtask relationship.

Thanks

Dd

Hi @Dd ,

I'm unsure if a paid solution is something you're considering, but there are several plugins in the marketplace that may meet your specific requirements flawlessly.

One such option is "Hierarchy For Jira Cloud". This tool dominates in extending the default issues hierarchy of Jira, granting you the power to visualize projects via a customizable tree view.

One Standout feature is its ability to present accumulated time logged, and estimated story points right on the user-friendly tree view table, eliminating any need for complex configuration. It simplifies your tracking process, removing any extra administrative burden.

Currently, it's offering a 30-day free trial. You're more than welcome to install it and see if it suits your needs.

Hello @Dd

First, the native issue hierarchy of Jira does not support Tasks being child issue of Stories because they both belong to the "standard" issue type level.

Epic
|-- standard issue type level (i.e. Story, Task, Bug)
|-- subtask issue type level

So, what are you doing in Jira to indicate that a Task is a "child" of a Story?

To sum up time from a standard issue type level set of issues to their parent Epic can be done through use of Automation Rules. You can find several discussions on this if you do an internet search for jira cloud automation sum time to epic.

Summing time from the Tasks to the Stories would likely also need to be managed through Automation Rules, but the details depend on how you have indicated the relationship between those issues.

There are usage limits on the use of Automation Rules. If you are already using Automation Rules you would need to consider how this new implementation would impact your usage.
