Epic name not found in picklist

I have an Epic and I want to add stories to it.  But when I look for the Epic name it prompts me red validation error "Epic with Key ITOI-907 does not exist". 

Clearly it exists but I don't see it in the pick list.  I tried for force it in by pasting and saving, now it comes up as "unlabeled-ITOI-907".  What is going on here?

Was the Epic created by converting another type of issue to an Epic? If so, it is possible that the Epic Name field did not get filled in automatically.

Can you try searching for the Epic with the "Show done epics" box checked, and see if that makes a difference?
