Epics - Not able to switch or delete

Paula Susman June 30, 2022

Epics have been working properly until today when I went to remove an Epic Link and that was not an option.  There was no ability in the field to switch to another Epic either.  Please let me know your ideas other than recreating the entire Epic with attached cloned stories.

Hi Paula,

I know they are changing things over from using Epic Link to Parent, but not sure where they are in the process. Of if this is even affected by it.

I would make sure that the Epic Link field is on the Edit screen used by the project, but cause it just sounds like the field is not editable to me.

Sounds very interesting...

Thank you for posting this but my issue that the Epics will no longer take in any children and this might have to do with the name field being changed but I doubt it...

What type of project is it? Can you share a screenshot?

Paula Susman July 5, 2022

It is a company project.  And it is hard to take a pic of a negative.  I go into the Epic Link field (whether it already has an epic in there or not) and get no option to either change or initially add an epic in the link field.

Then I tied this same thing in the story's Project (with the link field) and from the Epic side (using the + to create stories within the Epic).  Same thing - not able to change anything in that field.

This just started last week and we have Q3 planning coming up so not being able to link epic to story is kinda an issue...

This is happening to me (Global Admin) and my scrum masters and product owner in all projects at the moment.

FYI Another issue came up around Sprint Management at the same time but I have o issues but others do and only in some Projects so not sure if it is at all related.

Are you only having the Epic problem in one Project? Or in multiple projects? And several others have the same problem?

One thing I would check is to make sure the Epic Link field is on the Edit screen. Someone might have taken it off recently.

The Epic issue is through many Projects, all company type.

And have you verified that the Epic Link is on the Edit screen used by those projects?

Paula Susman July 6, 2022

Yes it is on there.  I can see if there is a link already associated but cannot change it or delete it.

Sorry, but I have run out of ideas. You should probably open a support ticket with Atlassian.

Please post back here as to the solution.

Good Luck!

Thank you so much for the support.

Good to know but as of today, my Epic Link fields are still working.

I find it interesting that I hadn't heard about this change. I would expect in the cloud version they would just seamlessly replace Epic Link with the Parent one.

Paula Susman July 5, 2022

That would be nice

@Paula SusmanI don't know if you figured out what was happening with your instance but I have verified that the new parent link is there and working.

I have been using Epic links and they are still there. I also tried using the parent link as well and have discovered it is an either-or set up at this time. I just set the parent of an issue to its Epic and it no longer shows up in the child issue list. Interestingly weird behavior.
