Finished tasks/bugs do not show up as resolved in my dashboards

Manuel Navarro December 7, 2022

Hello,

I am using Jira SW with the customized attached workflow. Captura.JPG

As the year is ending I would like to review different data from the efficiency of my team. I am trying to use the gadgets "average time in status" & "created vs resolved chart" in the dashboard menu but it seems like Jira does not identify my tasks at "done" or "done done" as resolved. And in the main panel of the tasks, I do not see how to modify the status as so.

hey @Manuel Navarro ,

Normally Jira identifies issues as "Done" when a Resolution is filled in.

Can you verify on the issue(s) you expect to see that they have a value for the Resolution?

Hello Dirk,

Thanks a lot for the quick response.

The issues do not seem to have such a value implemented in their template.

I have found that issues can be resolved by using a screen with this option during one of the transitions of the workflow.

Not sure if a simple new item could be applied directly to the template?

Also, for all the issues already "finished"  in the Done status (about 1500), is the a way to apply the resolution value to al of them?

Can you clarify what you mean with "

Not sure if a simple new item could be applied directly to the template?"

If it's not yet on your current template you can add a transition screen to your workflow or a postfunction so that the value is set automatically as Nic says.

For the issues already finished you cannot "bulk change" the value on the issue unfortunately.

A way around this is to create a loop transition on the status that the issues are in right now and set the value by either a transition screen/postfunction. This transition can be performed in bulk.

The way Atlassian will tell you to do that is

  1. Correct your workflow (as per my answer) so that it sets and clears resolution at the right time
  2. Use bulk-edit to re-open all the issues
  3. Use bulk-edit to close all the issues again, going through the "ask for resolution" screen, or the post-function you added in step 1.

But, there's a better way.

  • Correct the workflow (this stops more issues having the problem)
  • Wait until none of your users are likely to be actively updating issues in the affected projects
  • Change the "edit" screen for the issues, adding the resolution field for it
  • Use bulk-edit to edit the issues resolutions
  • You must not forget this last step - remove the resolution from the edit screens you added it to in step 3.

You must never leave the resolution field on any screen other than view or transitions.  If it is on the create screen, your users will end up creating resolved issues, and if it's on the edit screen, any update of the issue (other than transition) will cause it to become resolved!  That's why you should do this at a quiet time - you don't want your people accidentally resolving issues when editing them!

Do the transitions into the end status (rejected, done and done-done) all have a transition screen with the resolution on it OR a post-function that sets the resolution automatically?
