I had a request of a co-worker to help him to auto-assign his forwarded emails. So he is forwarding emails that are notifications that he takes care of in our environment. But he wants those to be assigned to him when he does this. It automatically makes him reporter since he is forwarding the email request. I can't seem to find a way to make the reporter also the assignee.

Is there anyway to do this other then using the Email App?

We are on a cloud instance of Jira

I’m not following you here. I assume the use case is that he has some email in his inbox that he wishes to turn into an issue in Jira. And he wants those issues assigned to him?

assuming I have it right I would suggest looking at and automation addon, e,g, Automation for Jira, Scriptrunner or similar. When an Issues is sent in via email by that individual set the Assignee to him.

Jack,

Yes he is forwarding emails that are going to our email for Jira and turning them into tickets. It makes him the reporter as it should since it is forwarded from his email but he also want it to assign it to him.

I thought we would need an addon app or such but wasn't sure I played with the automation but it wouldn't work so I thought we would need some type of addon. Do you have a recommendation of one that might be better then the other? Or accomplish for sure what I am trying to do. I looked at script runner seem like it was useful for multiple situations.

First I want to ensure you are not using JSD as it has built in automation though somewhat limited. As for a recommendation the ones I’m most familiar with are Automation for Jira, Scriptrunner and Power Scripts in that order but all are very good. I personally use the first currently. Scriptrunner and PS seem to be more feature rich but A4J has a free version with the only limit being the number of automations per month so might be a good place to start.
