When I create a new story from the structure I automatically get two of the same issue populated in the structure. I am getting duplicate issues. It was working just fine one day, but then I log in and now I am seeing all these duplicate issues for everything and every time I create a new one. I used to be able to use the "Remove Inserter/Extender duplicates" filter, but no longer solves the issue. Can some one please help me out why this is happening?
Hello Garth,
If you have any generators in the structure, a newly created issue can be duplicated simply because:
- when you create it from the structure, two things happen at once: the issue is created in Jira and then it is being added to the structure right after that. So if there is no limitation for the issue to appear in the structure, then it will be added.
- the newly created issue matches the rule of an existing generator and this generator adds the issue automatically the second time.
The 'Remove Inserter/Extender Duplicates' filter works only in one specific scenario when an issue is added by an Insert generator and then it is added by an Extend generator. In all other cases - when an issue is added manually or by two different extenders - the filter doesn't work.
If issues appear twice because of a generator, you can create issues outside of your structure or you can create them as you do now but with clicking the 'Don't Add to Structure' button in the bottom left corner of the Create screen. In both cases, new issues will be created in Jira but only added to the structure once by a generator.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact us directly at support.almworks.com if you need further assistance, we'll be glad to take a look at your set-up in more detail.

You know that for the "casual" users of our Jira/Structure, this is not intuitive at all to have them understand they need to click on the "Don't add to structure" checkbox.
I always find myself dealing with such cases where they didn't know.
Weirdly enough, when you add the item directly in the structure at the level of an extender, it will use the link or ask you the link type you wish to use and then the new item will not be duplicated.
Is there any other way to prevent manually created issues via Structure to not be manually added if it fits the criterias of any INSERTS or EXTENDS ?
And also, the label 'Don't Add to Structure' is counter-intuitive for the casual user but their goal is really to create and add the item to the Structure. They don't have any idea about inserters or extenders on that structure doing the job for them. At least, it should be clearer like "Don't MANUALLY add to structure".
