×My team is having issues to updates they are making in the Description field for certain issues. Sometimes we are able to update the Description, other times we can't and receive the following message:
"We couldn’t update the Description value
You can try again in a few minutes, or refresh the page."
Looking through the history on tickets where this error is occurring and ones where it is not, I can't find any differences. Admittedly, my tech knowledge is limited, but when I inspect the page with errors, I see Source Map Errors. Could this be the issue? If so, how would I fix this? If not, how can I figure out why we can't save certain description updates?
Screenshot of the error on the Jira page and the errors I see on inspect.
Is this issue is fixed ? does any one has any workaround for this ?
I cannot add an image in Description and save the Jira-item;
but I can add the same image in Comments and save the Jira-item?!
This is getting annoying, can you at least confirm that someone is trying to solve this problem?

I was experiencing the same problem of not being able to paste in images to the description field using Google Chrome (current Chrome version - 139.0.7258.128) and was getting the same error when I went to save the changes. I tried using FireFox (version 142.0) and it worked perfectly. Not sure if this helps anyone else but for me it worked.

We are also experiencing this issue. Has this been resolved?

There was an active incident yesterday that was causing this. It should be fixed now.
The projects where the 'Default Text Renderer' was selected were impacted, and changing it to 'Wiki Style Renderer' fixed the problem.
Thanks!

@Karan SachdevThanks for the response! However, I'm still receiving the same error on the same instances I was yesterday. What can I do to help remedy this?

I am also getting same error even today 30th April 2025. Other cases under same project are getting updated fine, there is one specific case which I cannot update the description for. @Karan Sachdev

Good to know I'm not alone @Zain Abbas ! @Karan Sachdev or anyone else on the Atlassian team, let us know if there is a fix here. Thanks!

Did some testing, only time the update of Description fails with this error is when a hyperlink is included, the URL link I am using is for another Jira case so its not external link. When I update simple text it works fine.
So issue is while updating text with a link.

Hey @Bryan Fitzgerald and @Zain Abbas
When I came across this post last week, there was an incident so it sounded like you're affected by that.
I am unable to replicate the same behaviour on my end, with both new and old Jira UI.
I tried adding multiple links, both Jira tickets from same site as well as external links. I am able to save the description in either case.
This may be something specific to the configuration on your sites, so I suggest you create a support ticket for assistance with this.
Thanks!

@Karan Sachdev - it looks like a member of our team has run into this same error today (and in the past 2 weeks). Is this a user error or an incident/known bug?

@Ashley Voll After submitting a ticket with Jira, we found that in our instance this was due to us reaching a character limit in the Description field. We were using a large template with a lot of information. We've since shrunk that down and haven't run into the same error since.

Thank you @Bryan Fitzgerald . We reviewed the ticket and the character limit hasn't been met or exceeded. It's happening on tickets with templates that we've been using for 2+ years now so we're not sure why, just now, that the error message is popping up.

Same here.
A tiny picture from [Snipping tool] triggers the error.
If I remove the snip, it is possible to save without an error

I am experiencing this too, with an image pasted directly into the field. Removing the image allows the save.

Some more info: I tried without the snipping tool
Same error. Additionally the image is filled in with grey shading (in both methods)

Finding that this appears to be intermittent. I had 5 tickets that I needed to paste the same image into. The first 3 worked, the last 2 failed. A couple of days later, it worked for the last 2 as well.
It can work and then fail within the same few minutes.
I've also noticed that sometimes images already pasted into a story will show, other times they'll say "Preview Unavailable."
It seems something is currently wrong with Jira Cloud's image engine that's going to be hard to diagnose.

We have users reporting similar issues, does anyone have a solution for this?

Here to second this, I've been trying to paste images into tickets since Monday and been met with the same error message.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - and when I go back to the save tickets the images are greyed out.
This combined with an issue Miro is having with the 3 dots is proving to be a pretty frustrating week so far and it's affecting my workflow and slowing down my team.
Please confirm there is either a fix for this or that it's been looked into.
Thanks

A member of my team is experiencing this as well, the error is surfacing on a ticket with a hyperlink and an image copied into the description field. Hoping a fix arrives soon.

Am also experiencing this and can't figure out how to save a new description

We are experiencing this issue with our custom field "Requirements", which is a Wiki Style Renderer field. It is happening when we try to add an image or attachment in the field, which has always worked in the past. We have been using this setup for 2 years and last week is the first time we've noticed this.
Can someone from Atlassian please confirm this is being looked at?

I reported this issue to Atlassian and they informed me it was an Internal issue
They pushed a fix on Tuesday so it should be resolved - I have encountered it since then
