All of a sudden my backlog doesn't show issues anymore.
The strange thing is that I didn't make any changes to the board or workflow settings. I am an administrator, and can see the sprint contents fine, but nothing on the backlog anymore. Just an hour ago I was adjusting the backlog.
Does anybody have an idea about what might have happened and how I can fix this?

It is happening to me now also (started yesterday). Everyone on the team is experiencing the issue for this board, but other boards are unaffected. I am not aware of any recent changes. I tried changing the filter to a simple project="X" query but that does not resolve the problem.
Has anyone found a fix?

It's happening to me as well!! Still not back to normal for me, though.

Three quick things to check:
Could you show us your board filter? (Feel free to scribble out project or people names etc, it's just the fields and selection we're interested in).
What does the filter return in the issue search? Actually, we don't need the data here, we're looking to see if it looks right to you for "everything I want on the board"? When you add a clause "and (status in (open, reopened, prepared))" to the filter, does it return what you expect to see in your backlog?
Could you check (as an admin) Admin -> Issues -> Status and look at the "to do" status. It should be in the "status category" called "to do", the yellow one, not the grey "undefined". (I don't think this is directly the problem for the board, but it is going to mess up some other stuff, so I'd recommend getting it fixed)

We checked the filter query at the time - all of the issues showed and the status was good. We made no changes - but as I was about to raise a support ticket with Atlassian, the issues all came back.
I know we didn't change anything, so can only imagine there are a short lived issue with Jira Cloud.

It seems to have been a short lived issue indeed. The problem appeared out of the blue and also went away out of the blue, seemingly not triggered by anything I did.
All is good now.

The magic of JIRA and man behind the curtain.
It's working for us here too

Same issue here. Tried logging out and logged back in but no result.
Few in the team can still see it though
