I would like to use templates to standardize the creation of bug and story tickets across our teams. The templates should include headers such as Summary, Explanation, Steps to Reproduce, Expected Results, Actual Results, Timeframe, Workaround, Customer Impact, Persona, Description, Acceptance Criteria, Timeline, Screenshots or Attachments, and Customer Success Questions or Feedback.
For each header, I want to include subtext that will act as prompts/checklists to ensure that our team includes all necessary information. For example, under the "Summary" header for bug tickets, the subtext could read "Provide a clear and concise summary of the issue or bug that you've encountered."
I want the subtext to be pre-populated in the templates, so that the person creating the ticket only needs to delete the suggested text and replace it with the appropriate information.
How can I create these templates with subtext prompts/checklists for each header, and make them easily accessible to everyone on our team?
Hi Phil,
Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Great question - because providing help/context to users is good.
Short answer is that it is not possible by default within Jira.
However, I recommend you review some of the Marketplace Apps related to issue templates to see if an app provides that functionality:
https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?product=jira&query=issue%20template
I am curious if you are you working in a Company Managed, or Team Managed project?
Beyond that here are a few ideas that may help bridge the gap for you:
For Team Managed projects, adding a field description below custom fields will display that text when the issue is being created.
Team Managed projects, custom fields, you can specify default text to display in the field.
For Company Managed Projects, good news is that a new feature allowing default values to be added to system fields is currently in process!
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-4812
I recommend you watch that feature.
I hope this helps!

Hi @Phil Rosen I'm circling back through some of my posts to check and see if your question has been answered (as best it currently can be) or if there is anything further?
If the question is answered, when you have a moment, would you mark the ticket as "answered"? Doing so helps keep the Atlassian Community Forum Tickets up-to-date with their classification as to whether the ticket has been answered or still needs assistance.
Have a great week!
Christopher

@Christopher Maxwell thanks for circling back. I ended up getting "Easy Templates". While not exactly what I wanted, it does the job and they have a great support team that you can actually meet virtually with if needed.
