I am trying to send a daily report to my Manager showing the ticket count by category through email.
Ex: Status Category. No of tickets

If you only want to send the count per category then you can configure the automation rule

like i mentioned You can write the Schedule automation rule which will send email at schedule time.
You can create separate automation rule for each JQL Staus= Open/InProgress/ Hold etc.
If you want to send details of issue then like @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- mention you can create filter and subscribe it

Run a search for the issues you want to report on, save it as a filter, and then subscribe your manager to it, they will get a regular email containing the count of matching issues and the list of the keys for the first handful of them.
