I have a rule that will add a template of questions to the Business Value field when the Story Point is greater than 4 points. While testing, I noticed each time I update the Story Point value and it remains over the 4 points, it re-runs the automation rule and will of course remove any of the answers the users input in the Business Value field.
We do have situations that upon initial estimation by our S.A. and post review the Story Point value could increase with the additional information gathered.
Here is a screenshot of my rule:
Hi Eric!
Is the "Business Value" field empty before you edit it with the automation? If yes then the simplest solution for this is to add a new if condition to check if it is empty and only if it's true to run the automation.
If it's not empty you can try to use Advance compare condition to check if this field contains text provided by the automation.
@Paula Kraszewska Thank you for responding. The automation rule issue is only when the Story Point field has a value greater than 4 and then it is updated to another number that is still greater than 4, for example, my initial input may be 6 points. But upon re-evaluation it is 10 point. Upon updating to 10 points, the automation rule runs again and re-populates the original template.
This is an issue because if the Business Value section was populated after the 6 point entry, all of it is over written when the automation rule runs after the update to 10 points.
Sounds like I would need to use the Advance Compare. I am not familiar with that, any guidance you can provide?
