I have changed my last name and I have a new email address. I need to merge the history of my original account and username/email address to the new one.

Hey @rachael.oliva ,

Welcome!

So this one is a bit tricky, but let me see if I can walk you through this.

First, there is no option to "Merge Accounts."  Every action taken in Jira is attributed to an Atlassian Account ID, and Atlassian has not provided an option to take content associated with one account and attribute it to another.

So what is the workaround?  Instead of trying to merge the accounts, you can adjust your old account from the old email to the new email.  Now if you already have an account at the new email, you will first need to adjust that one to something else.  See below for a potential workflow:

  • Email1@email.com - primary account
  • Email2@email.com - new account but correct email
  1. Adjust Email2@email.com to use a different email such as email2.old@email.com.  This frees up the email address for you to use with your primary account
  2. Then adjust Email1@email.com to your desired Email2@email.com

Now if you are being managed by Atlassian Access and are syncing via an IDP you will need to work with your Administrators to help with this.  Depending on their level of comfort with API calls and familiar with Atlassian Access, they may need to loop in Atlassian Support.

Hope this helps.

Kris

Thank you. I did finally get the workaround to work. Not the friendliest process though ... required multiple password resets. I had tried this about 4 months ago and gave up because my company's SSO. Happy to see my name properly displaying now with my correct email.

Yeah, imagine having to script that for 100s of accounts. That’s why I got so familiar with this process. Glad it worked out for you :)

Would you mind marking my answer is correct or accepted?
