How can I move the issues in the current project's backlog to another projects backlog?

billal.hararah March 30, 2020

I want to move all the issues currently in the backlog, but I don't want to move the issues in the current sprint that are still "To Do". When I create a filter in the Issue Navigator, I don't see the option to filter to just the backlog issues of the project I'm in. Hoping there's an easier way than manually going exporting and importing. And Yes, I'm fairly novice at Jira.

Hi @billal.hararah  - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Not sure I completely follow what you are trying to do, but will give it a shot.

You want to run a query and get results. Then you want to do a Bulk change and move those issues to another project. Is that correct?

Assuming yes, but it will not let you do a bulk Move?

HI @John Funk Thank you!

Correct on the first part, however it will let me do a bulk move - but it will not let me filter out certain issues because they fall under the general umbrella of issues that are "to do"- this isn't ideal because some of those issues that are "To Do" are in the current sprint.

My ideal 'Happy Path" would be to do a bulk move from the backlog and not from the query option. Is that possible?

You should be able to filter out any issues you want with your filter when you run it. And even after you run the filter, you can decide which of the results you want to select to move. Not sure that I am following why you are not able to do that.

Didn't know that I could select after clicking on bulk move! thanks for your help!

If that takes care of your need, can you click on the Accept answer button to close this one out? Thanks!

Hi @billal.hararah , Issue navigator will not have the option to filter using based on backlog, however, you can try with using "Sprint" identified as anything except current ones value.
This should give you the list which you can bulk move to another project.

Please test and verify first and let us know if it works.

Thanks.

Hi @Sajit Nair _Trundl_ @thanks for your help; two things

1. Can I bulk move all the issues in from the backlog itself? I know I can select them all at once but I don’t see an option to bulk move

2. How can I filter based on sprint anything except the current ones value?

1) I don't think you can not move from backlog.. it will have to be from issue navigator.

2) use a search key like -

project = XYZ and sprint not in openSprints()

Thanks @Sajit Nair _Trundl_ will give it a shot
