How can I track previous releases?

Currently, our projects are set up by departments? However, I am wanting to start setting up projects based on projects. However, I am needing a way to track previous release versions, as this was done by department.

If you have project admin permissions for the projects, then you can list unreleased, released and archived versions and recreate those in your new project based projects.

@Dave Mathijs - I am not wanting to set up a Master Project. In reviewing your attachment, it looks like I need a master project. Or am I reading this incorrectly?
