How can i set unique value for a custom field?

I have a custom field named "Serial Number" and I'm trying to set it as a unique field so we won't have duplicated data upon every new entry. Is there a way to do this?

Hi @Wilson Seow ,

I did it in the past but you need a third part app like Script Runner or JMWE so you can put in place a scripted validator. My solution is :

• make this field editable just on transitions (put it in create and other transition screens)
• add a scripted validator for each transition in which field is involved based on a JQL

if you have chance to use one of that app, please let me know if you need suport for the scripted validator code.

Not out of the box. Even with a script, the search for a duplicate could take a long time depending on how many issues it needs to search and it will be ever growing
