We have multiple teams and they work on different clients within the same Jira Project. These issues are differentiated by a custom field where the value is the specific client.
Is there a way to filter the assignees that show up based on this custom field's value?

In this post from 2017, a responder talks about adding a customer Group Picker field to the issue, organizing your potential Assignees into Groups, and then restricting the Assignable User permission to members of the group specified in the custom Group Picker field.
I haven't actually tried this out, but it looks like the options are available in Jira Cloud.

I want to see only a subset of all users based on the team that is responsible for the ticket. This was accomplished based on Trudy's answer above. Thank you.
