How do I create a project with an old project key

Folks,

I'm trying to migrate most of my classic projects to next gen projects.  However, even if i change the key of the old project, i can't apply the old key to the new project.

For instance:

1. Go to the project "Learn Tiger Style Kung Fu" with the key "FUJOWPAI"

2. Change the key of that project to "OFUJOWPAIO"

3. Create next gen project and give it a key of "FUJOWPAI"

Jira complains that the key "FUJOWPAI" is already in use by "Learn Tiger Style Kung Fu" even though it's not anymore.  Even the keys of the items in the OFUJOWPAIO reflect the key change.

On server i would have just done a reindex to fix this. but i'm not  sure what to do here.

Wow. The request is from 2013. I'm sure Atlassian will get right on it. Ugh.

You might consider reaching out to Atlassian Support to see if they can clean out the old records from the DB for you.
