How do I create a structure board that includes current sprint tasks and stories?

Ashlee H January 30, 2025

The way our Jira tickets are structured is as follows:

  • Stories spawn Tasks
  • Stories are linked to Epics

These are the steps I've used to add them to a Structure board.

  1. Automation > Insert JQL Query ...
    • project = "X" AND issuetype = task AND sprint in opensprints()
    • This pulls in all tasks in the current sprint
  2. Automation > Extend > Linked Issues ...
    • Link Type = Spawns
    • Link direction = parent issue `spawns or is spawned by` sub-issue
  3. This results in an error message
    • You are about to create a generator.  It will be impossible to add it to the structure because of the automation installed: Cannot add generators to dynamic content.  You can drag-and-drop the item to a different location.

Is there another way to do this so that I can capture the tasks in the current sprint and their corresponding stories?  Thank you!

Hello @Ashlee H

When you add a generator, it is being added under the row in the structure where the focus is placed. To avoid the mentioned error message, you need to first click on the name of the structure right below the Summary column's name, and then add the generator you want. This way the generator will be added to the top of the structure, affect all of its content, and it will not overlap with other generators.

I hope this helps. If you need further assistance with this or if you have other questions about Structure, please contact us directly at our support portal.
