How do I find which Jira apps are being used?

philip_weiss December 17, 2024

We have a bunch of apps that have been installed in our Jira Cloud.

How do I view usage data for those apps?  I need to figure out which ones are no longer needed.

(This answer is very disappointing.)

I still don't understand why there is an app that does exactly this (App Usage for Jira) that is available for Server and Data Center, but not Cloud. We are in a real bind here with app prices jumping as much as 300% this year and I've been asked to look and see which ones we can "do without". Very hard to figure out without a tool to help out.

The App Usage app in Data Center was built leveraging the concepts that the apps are installed on and store their data on the same host as Jira. Initially that app provided information about usage of only a few other apps. Atlassian had to work with the app vendors to establish agreements about how the apps store information so that Atlassian's App Usage app could reliable parse that information to determine usage.

The architecture of Cloud is quite different. Vendors are limited in their direct access to the Jira host by the APIs that Atlassian has exposed to them. Apps may not be installed on the same host as Jira and/or may not store their data on the same host as Jira. Many apps are actually running on hosts managed by the app vendor and only interacting with the Jira system through APIs.

An App Usage app for Cloud would have to be entirely different than the one for Data Center. And so far, Atlassian has not release such an app. I have no insights into whether or not they are working on such an app for Cloud.

Thank you explaining that Trudy, now I understand why things are the way they are.

Hello @philip_weiss - Currently, there is no feature like this in Atlassian Jira. I found this post and seems like there is no way to see app usage in Jira cloud.

App usage

Thanks,

Bharat

Hello @philip_weiss

I recommend that you contact the vendor of each app to ask them how you can get usage information.
