How do I hide or suppress fields for new tickets without affecting old Jira tickets?

luke_pivac May 4, 2020

Hello, we want to suppress a couple of old free text fields that were need in the past but we do not need them anymore for newer tickets. Is there away to:

1. Suppress these two fields for all new tickets created

2. Without affecting the older and existing tickets that are already in the system?

We would be happy to suppress the older content in those fields as well as long as we could easily retrieve them.

We would prefer not having to create an old scheme and move between different schemas. We just wanted a quick fix to hide some old fields we no longer require without affecting the information we captured in legacy information.

Hi Luke, you can remove field(s) from your screens so you won't be able to create or edit issue with these information. It won't be available on issue detail too. But you can display this field as column in Issue Search. So you can prepare JQL like "project = X AND issuetype = Y and created < 2020-01-01" and display "old" columns for these issues.

Let me know if my suggestion is usefull for you.
