How do I show Story Points in search result details?

I'm using a Classic Software Project in a brand new Jira instance. During provisioning I selected to use Scrum. However that set me up using the new "Story Points Estimate" field. Turns out I need the "Story Points" field for Classic projects.

Anyway, my problem is that Story Points don't show up in the search results detailed view. This appears to be a classic template and is not affected by any of the new field visibility settings. I've worked out how to get the field everywhere else. Just not in the search results.

When I use "Where is my field" it says it doesn't show up because it has no value. How do I change this so it always shows up? (The reason I've searched is so I can set a value for a whole pile of tickets without flicking between screens)

Hi @Rick Measham ,

I'm from the dev team and we looked into this and believe we have fixed the problem.

If you refresh the page, you should now see the New issue view in all locations.

Cheers,

Peggy

Hello @Rick Measham

Thank you for reaching out.

Per your description, I understand that the Story point field is not appearing in your issue navigator when open the issues in detail view (panel at the right side) and the field is empty. Is that correct?

I tested the behavior you mentioned in my personal site, however, the field display just fine in the detail view as "None" when it's empty, as you can see in the screenshot below:

Can you please confirm if that's the view you are talking about?

If that's the case, I suggest checking the following steps:

  1. Navigate to your project > Project settings > Screens > Check if the story point field is properly added to the View screen of the issue type.
  2. Under Project settings > Issue layout, make sure the field is visible in your issue view.
  3. Under Jira Settings > Issues > Custom fields, find the Story points field and check if it's context is applicable for all issue types (By default, it is only applicable for Stories and Epics).
  4. If you are using the Old view, I'm afraid the Story points are not displayed indeed. Please, confirm if that's the case

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks @Petter Gonçalves, that's the view I'm talking about. But mine looks a lot different to yours.

It looks like my view is the old one with the workflow buttons rather than the dropdown from the current status. How do I switch search results to the new view?

Hello @Rick Measham

You are welcome!

I believe you must be using the Old issue view. To switch to the new issue view:

  1. Click in your profile picture at the left-bottom corner (Or top-right corner) > Settings (personal settings)
  2. Scroll down to the Jira Labs menu and turn on the New Jira issue view

If that doesn't work for you, please provide us with a screenshot of how the detail view is displaying to you.

Hi @Petter Gonçalves

Here's a screenshot of the detail view in search results. I've checked that my labs settings are turned on for the new view (I even turned it off and back on again!).

If I view the actual issue outside of the context of search results I get the new view, so the problem is entirely limited to the search results.

Hello @Rick Measham

That's really strange behavior. In fact, the screenshot you provided is slightly different from the Old View itself.

Digging a little bit more about this, I believe you are facing the following bug:

Old issue view is shown when clicking the issue link in the list view

To confirm if you are facing this bug, please try the steps below:

  1. Try to open your Jira site in a different browser, using incognito mode and checking if it reproduces
  2. Check if the same view is displayed for other users in the site

We will be waiting for your results.

Hi @Petter Gonçalves

1. I logged in as me in Incognito and got the same old view. Logged in as me in Edge and got the same old view.

2. Then I created a new user and logged in to it .. and got the new view.

This is a brand new instance of Jira, only provisioned about four weeks ago. My user account is a brand new user account provisioned at the same time for my new company.

Is there a fix for this bug? JRACLOUD-71241 says it's "in the pipeline" but that was back in March.

Hello @Rick Measham

Sorry for this delayed response.

I have escalated your issue on Friday to the Dev Team responsible for the issue detail view to run a deeper investigation and I will let you know as soon as they provide me any feedback.

Additionally to that, I refreshed the Cache in the background of your Jira Site, so please try the steps below and check if the problem persists:

  1. Log-off log back in
  2. Access Jira using incognito mode
