How do i configure and integrate Jira Service Desk version 3.15 with Jira version 6.07?

Venug Pampati December 7, 2018

Question 1:

I have the following Jira products running on same instance with versions :

  • Atlassian JIRA (v6.0.7#6106-sha1:76d7c58)
  • Atlassian Confluence 5.4.2, Team Collaboration Software.

Now i would like to add  Jira Service Desk 3.15 Version and configure integration with above Jira products.

I have learned that there are some compatibility issues arise here.

Please provide your thoughts and recommendation how do i configure and integrate the Service Desk with my existing Jira Products

Question 2:

On a second thought since Jira Service Desk is now available as  stand alone application i am thinking of installing the Service Desk as Stand alone application on separate instance. Once I did can I able to configure and integrate with above listed Jira products without having any upgrade ? by using any plug ins , if so please provide me the available plug in details.

Please provide your thoughts.

Do not use  even try to versions that are incompatible within Jira.  They are not supported for good reasons (often that just "it doesn't work")

Confluence is not a Jira application, it is a separate application.  Version 5 will work fine with Jira 7.x although you might find the Jira macros aren't as useful as the ones in Confluence 6+

Why?  This will reduce your "integration" with the existing Jira Core (and Software?) installation and need a new set separate licences.  You will need to set up new integrations and do more work to make it work with the two existing servers.  Short version - there are probably no benefits for you in doing this

Upgrade Jira 6.0 to 6.4, then to 7.0, then to 7.13.  Then use Admin -> Manage applications to install a valid version of Service Desk

Optionally, upgrade Confluence to 6.latest as well, but this is not strictly necessary (although I'd still strongly recommend getting it to at least 5.8)

The simple answer it’s not possible update your JIRA.

Now as to why, there has been a major change to JIRA source code as of 7 and the service desk code is based on this version of Jira hence you will break compatibility between the application.

If you must set up a separate server but then I’ll advise looking up application links compatibility before this.
