How do you get the Jira Epics and Versions sidebar to appear?

I have created a new Scrum project on Jira, however the 'Versions' and 'Epics' sidebar options don't appear.

Is there a setting I need to select to make this work?

Did you use the new agility project available only on cloud ?

Yes, I've had someone say I need to use the 'Scrum (Classic)' template which has the options available.
