How many users licence (Urgent Help)

Hello guys. I am looking for information on the number of users licence I would need to use Jira software. I am about to role out this tool to the company and trying to manage cost as is expected. Some forums state that not all Jira users are licence users. So I am not really sure if someone can break this down to me. This tool would be mainly used by test and dev. So I was thinking the 10 users pack would be enough. But I just need to know if others access Jira as well, they would be able to comment on tickets etc.

Hi, welcome the the Atlassian Community!

How many licenses you need really depends on your company and the setup but here are a few pointers:

  • If you plan to use Jira Service Management with a customer portal the users who access Jira via the customer portal only do not need a license.
    Only users acting as agents on the tickets need a JSM license
  • If you don not plan to use JSM and are going to use Jira Software (JSW) only:
    • Any user who need to login into Jira to create tickets, add comments, edit tickets, ... need a JSW license
    • If you open up your Jira tenant to the internet (without login) and make some projects read-only for anonymous users they do not need a license of course.
      But I assume you don't want to make that Jira instance available for anyone on the internet

so users that would be able to login but  just read ticket details do not need a license is that correct?
