How to - Create Dynamic Issue Types in Next Generation JIRA ?

Is there a way of creating Dynamic Issue Types in Next Generation JIRA ? So for example ISSUE TYPE A has different fields to complete than ISSUE TYPE B depending on which option is selected.

Hi Darren,

Atlassian rebranded the next-gen projects into Team-Managed projects a few months ago.

Team managed project in Jira Cloud are able to have different issue types within them, and those issue types are also able to have their own fields.  This can be customized as explained over in Customize an issue's fields in team-managed projects.

However I'm not sure I fully understand your ask here.  Does this satisfy what you mean by a dynamic issue type?  Or are you looking for something more, such as when the project is first created to have different defaults among the base issue type sets?

Hi Andy,
Thank you for taking the time to respond, we have created different bespoke issue types but we would like to see if we can take it a step further and reduce the number of issue types we have by introducing some form of dynamic issue type / intelligent scripting so for example.

If I have an issue type that is create / amend / delete I would like to introduce a drop down field in which I select say Delete and the fields change to capture the information I need in order to process a deletion etc...

Thanks for the additional context here.  While issue types can allow you to select which fields apply to each issue type, there really is not another granular field selection method inside an issue type. 

I came across an existing feature request over in https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-70134 which seeks to have the configure field option that exists on the Create screen based on the issue type selected in the create screen.  Right now even that level of configuration is not possible.

However perhaps there already exists another solution by a vendor in marketplace.  Your description here sounds much like the functionality of the ProForma app.  This app allow you to create dynamic forms and checklists that might help streamline the process of data capture here.  There also might be other solutions in Marketplace.
