How to access username who performed a transition?

We want to be able to display the user who performed specific transitions in a saved filter to be used in a dashboard. I know I can do this by adding a custom field for each transition and adding a postfunction to populate that field with the current user, but is it possible natively without doing that? Obviously Jira has ways of knowing, since you can view the users in the transition history on any ticket.

No, it saves in in the history but not in a displayable field

Yeah, that's what I figured, but I was hoping that for once, Atlassian would do something the easy way :)
