We run service desk and we do not assign JIRA Software licenses automatically to new users.
However, we would like to automate JIRA license assignment when we add user to a specific project role (not to a group, because adding users to group requires JIRA Admin permission; adding user to project role does not require JIRA Admin)
Is there any way to add JIRA License automatically to a user which was added to a specific project role?
Thank you.
Hi.
We utilized Slack Automation for several tasks like creating users, assigning Group with JIRA license or creating Projects from predefined templates.
Works great and our users love it.

If you have a scripting tool, yes.

Hi Jiri,
You can grant access to project roles and applications through groups but not the other way around.
Project roles allow for applying restrictions and access at the project level only and are a layer below the application access and group association levels for permissions. When adding a user to a group that belongs to a project role, that user will be added to the role as well, but adding the user to the role directly only has impact at the project level, so application access cannot be controlled at this layer as it requires a group association.
As a workaround here you could look into ScriptRunner, there is an example on how to get a list of users from a role in This Post , and then there is another example on how to add users to a group based on a list of users in This Post, I believe you could combine the two scripts to accomplish what you are looking for.
Regards,
Earl
