How to add emails as comment in jira issues with ticket number in the mail body?

Ronny Hofmann June 19, 2018

Hello,

is there a possibility to send an email as a comment in the jira, if the ticket number is in the email body? It works fine with the number in the subject line.

Side Question: I thought you can send emails in the jira while using the "bcc:". This does not work for me.  There are no Problems with the "to:" and the "cc:" field. Are there any special conditions that have to be fulfilled?

Thanks for your Answer.

Hello,

The out of the box mail handlers work with the key in the subject. The bcc users go to watchers.

If you want more functionality you can use the Email this issue or Jira enterprise mail handler plugins.

If you decide to give Enterprise Mail Handler for Jira (JEMH) a try, I would recommend using the Regexp Field Processor to extract the issue key from the email body, and use it to set the field "issueKey".

Hello and thanks for your answer. Both of you recommend the Enterprise Email Handler so maybe I should try this addon.

In the interest of transparency, I will note that I am part of the team that develop JEMH and just suggesting what feature may help should you try the add-on.
