Hey!

We'r trying to import tons of epics and stories with a CSV file. Have seen that it's only possible to bulk update storyes/tasks at youtube. Before it used to be possible to upload both epics and stories.

Anyone who can help? I simply don't understand how it is not possible anymore when it used be an easy maneuver.

Hello @Ingeborg Kristoffersen

Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

Of course, you have the option to import Epics/Stores into Jira Cloud using a CSV file as well.

Once your CSV file has been prepared, log into your Jira Cloud site as a Jira administrator to start the import process. Refer Import data from a CSV file for details steps on how you can prepare the CSV and import it in Jira cloud.

Thank you for your swift reply! But for epics, what would be the unique Issue ID? Can I create issue ID myself, for instanc epic 1, epic 2 etc. Or do I have to get the epic IDs from Jira?

No you don't need to get epic IDs from Jira, if you are creating new ones, you need to follow some rules as mentioned below.

You can create a hierarchy of imported issues by specifying their parent / child relationships:

  • Add three columns to you CSV file with the headings: “Issue id”, “Issue type”, and “Parent”

  • Ensure each issue in your CSV is given a unique (sequential) number in the "Issue Id" column

  • Reference the unique "Issue Id" number of an issue in the “Parent” column

For example, I have created below CSV-

and then mapped the fields like below -

mapping-in-jira.png

Once imported, the fourth issue will be a child of the second issue if you match the "Issue Id" and “Parent” fields in your CSV file to the corresponding Issue and Parent fields in Jira.

Similarly, the second issue will be the child of the fifth issue as the “Issue Id” and “Parent” fields are matched.

Hope this helps.

Question @Kishan Sharma :  If you choose something like 999888 as the Epic ID (knowing that's not an 'occupied' issueID, when the time comes that 999888 would be next in line for issueID, would it just skip that number?

Hi @Scottie Brimmer Yes, It would be next in line issueID in that case.
