How to clone Jira Server and use both as Productive Servers

King Cetin October 31, 2019

Hello,

We would like to make a full backup of our currently Jira server (with Confluence) and clone it to a new virtual machine with a new hostname and IP Address.
Jira, Confluence and the database are on the same Machine.

Both servers should be productive, we bought new licenses for the new server.

After cloning, the new server has the same Server-ID as the old one, is this a problem for licensing? Can i get a new Server-ID?

Is there something else to note when cloning the server?

Thanks in advance.

My understanding of how atlassian works is - you should ethically have one license per server id .

It isn't quite right to have two production instance running same server id and license.

why dont you move over to data center - buy one license and create as many cluster nodes as you like to and run them as production.

Thanks for your fast reply.

The problem is that we are 2 Companies working on the same Jira Server, in near feature we will split the companies.

We want to keep the most of the user profiles and some projects and remove the rest from the other companie.

We have now 2 different licenses, one is active on the Jira server, the other is for the clone server, but the problem is the same Server-ID.

I hope you understand my problem.

Why don't you do a separate install and just import using the backup or use a database backup ?

I bet that is the best way to go about - you already have  second valid license.

Hi!

I tried to install a new VM and import the backup from jira.

It worked but i have again the same Server-ID.
Is there no way to change the Server-ID?

I am surprised - how did you get the same ID :p .

Did you just import the backup on an already cloned JIRA ?

or

Did you do the JIRA installation from scratch ?

Hi!

I installed a new Server, installed JIRA from scratch and made an import from the backup.zip from JIRA.

But now i have the same Server-ID... thats weird.
