Hi,
The following is stated about the default team velocity used for calculating Team capacity within Jira Plans:
If you’re using story points to estimate issues, you can only use Scrum teams in your plan. The default team velocity is set to 30 story points, and the default iteration length is set to 2 weeks.
However, it is not stated how to configure the number of story points. With that in mind, I'd like to ask if the community knows how to increase number of story points (and iteration length, if possible)?
Look forward to hear from you :)
/Mike
Hi @Mike Pedersen welcome to the Atlassian Community.
The capacity of your iterations can fluctuate for several reasons. Examples include public holidays, a sick team member, or team members spread across different projects. If you’re using time-based estimates, the default capacity is 200 weekly hours. If you’re using story points, the default setting is 30 story points per iteration.
The default length of iterations in your plan are inherited from each team’s settings. You can keep the sprint (and therefore your plan) accurate by editing its capacity via the sprint details flyout.
To change the capacity of a sprint from your timeline:
Select a sprint to open the sprint capacity information window.
Select the number next to the Sprint capacity field and enter a new value.
Use the checkmark to confirm the change.
Hi @Dave Mathijs,
Thanks for clarifying and walking me through the steps. Capacity planning is enabled already, so I can tick that box at least
Maybe you can elaborate a bit on where to open a sprint and change the value in the Sprint capacity field? I can't seem to locate that view at least, btw I'm not an admin as of now. Just fyi :)
Thanks in advance
Mike

@Mike Pedersen I am having the same issue, were you able to figure out where to edit the value in the sprint settings?

@Eileen Mauer I created a new Team in the Plans view and that allowed me to change the value in the Sprint capacity field. Then I bulk changed the Team field for all relevant Jira issues, so that stats would show up in the Summary view.
Note: After the recent update to Plans, I see that the value is back to default value though. I'll have to see what can be done, but maybe it'll work for you :)

Thanks Mike! I found that my limitation was caused by not having the team sprint boards configured as the Issue Source for each team in Plans. I also had to pre-create sprints for the rest of the year so that I can adjust the team capacity per sprint and plan out to year end. Now I can account for vacation, winter holidays and when we plan to onboard new team members.
Super Slick!
