How to create approval workflow for a non-Service Desk project?

This sales project has a lot of "secret" information, so it's pretty locked down to the sales team, EXCEPT this one status in the workflow where the direct manager of the new hire needs to approve the ticket.   I can assign the manager to the assignee but how do I add to the assignee() permission to view and transition the ticket (and then I'll change the assignee back to a sales team member).  Thanks.

Hello @Nancy Bonanno

Thank you for reaching out.

Per your description, I understand you want to add an approval step in the workflow of a non-service desk project, however, you are not being able to set the permission to view and transition the issue to the assignee (Manager) in the approval step. Is that correct?

Please, follow the steps below to add the view/transition issue permission to the assignee:

  1. Navigate to the project > Project Settings > Permissions > Actions > Edit permissions
  2. Click to edit any permission and flag the option "Current Assignee" for the browse projects and transition issues permissions:

  3. Click to grant the permission

Additionally, we have a very complete KB that provides further instructions on how to create an approval step for a Jira software project (Also applicable to Jira Cloud). Please, check it below:

Oh for heaven's sake.  I kept missing the SHOW MORE when I went to Edit Permissions.  That's perfect!

Thank you!
