How to delete a Confluence account without affecting the corresponding Jira account

We want to delete past users but don't want to remove their contributions. Please let me know if there are any negative effects if you delete a user.

Hi Amber, 

Are you deleting the user from Confluence AND JIRA? Or are you maintaining an account on JIRA?

I've deleted users in the past from both and have not seen any negative effects. The user contributions are still there and their user name just shows as inactive.

If you remove the user from any user-assignable fields, you will not be able to re-assign them. This basically archives the information, so keep that in mind.
