How to find a list of projects that use Xray in Jira Data Center if you don't have Admin access?

Dorene Watson December 13, 2023

My QA team needs a way to track which projects use the Xray Test Management For Jira app. No one on the team has Admin access so they are not able to use the Xray app interface available within the Jira Admin console itself. Is there a way for them to independently generate this data?  A JQL query maybe?

Our Admins don't want to be on the hook for providing this information regularly and we want to avoid giving someone on the QA team full Admin access to our Jira instance.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have ScriptRunner available? You could use the custom REST Endpoint to generate a HTML page (which could be available only if you are in a specific user group) which shows the content you desire, e.g. a list of all projects using the issuetype Test or something similar.

Hi @Dorene Watson and welcome to the Community!

I'm not aware of a specific way to find this but here are some suggestions:

  • run a JQL to search for issuetype = Test.  You can then see which projects are returned and build another JQL on project (or document which projects are returned).  It's not ideal but it would work...  or look at the issue types per project....
  • Or ask your admin to take a one-time screenshot of all requirements projects (Admin > System > Manage Apps > XRay > Requirements Projects) and document them.  Going forward maybe your admin can implement some automation to notify you when a new project is created with the XRay schemes....

Thanks Laurie. We've thought of those, but don't want to give access to all projects or own the report ourselves.  Looks like we may have to though.
