I know the workaround for "archiving" projects in Cloud is to create a new permission scheme with Browse Project turned off. This will hide the project from the main projects page, but it will also prevent users from accessing it for archival purposes.
Is there any way to hide the project from the projects page but still allow it to be searchable or accessible to users who have a direct link or favorite?
Our list of projects is getting very long, and a number of them are no longer active, so we don't want to see them cluttering the main projects list page. But users still need to be able to refer to issues in these projects for research purposes.
Hi Esther,
As you already know, at this moment, Jira Cloud does not offer the possibility of archiving the projects. Also, granting someone the browse projects permission will make that project's name visible in the list of projects. So, what you want to achieve is currently not possible.
I have a different workaround in mind that might solve it: Rename all the archived projects and apend a special character or a word in the beginning of the archived project's name. This should make it appear on the last page (or pages), so it will bother less.
Something like
ω [archived] Project Name
Claudiu
Thanks, Claude. We may end up doing something like that. My other option is to just set the category for "archived" projects to be something like "archived", but since there's no way to negative-filter (i.e. show everything BUT the selected category), that's a last resort.

@Claudiu Lionte I've actually removed the browse projects permission and the project name is still visible on the project list. Is this a known issue? How can I hide the project from the project list without deleting it completely?

Esther,
Archive the project but don't turn on browser permission to everyone. Give the necessary people (Admins, PM) browse permission to the project. The other permissions should not have any users/projects roles or groups in them.

But the browse project permission is what makes it visible in the project list view, right? Our projects are not locked down internally - everyone has access to view tickets in all projects. That means everyone would need the browse projects permission, which means the project would still display in the projects list view, even if I remove all other permissions.

Esther,
No, the Browse project permission to an archived project doesn't make the project visible to anyone apart from those who have that particular permission. Also, the project isn't listed.
The fact that you've the project archived and edited the permission scheme as mentioned above, then you should be okay.

I must be misunderstanding what you mean when you say "archived". Every reference I can find online to "archiving" projects in Cloud says that it's not possible to actually archive a project; the workaround is to just create a new permission scheme with all permissions (especially browse projects) turned off.
My understanding is that only Data Center has an actual archive function.
Can you please provide a link to documentation describing what you're talking about?

Also:

As I said, the entire company would need to have that particular permission, so I'm not getting what it is that's going to hide the project from the project list.

Esther,
Sorry, i was going with JIRA server. If it's cloud, archiving isn't possible. Data Center, yes.

Well, I appreciate the thought.
I do wish people would more closely read original posts before jumping in with answers; I very clearly indicated this was for Cloud, and the post is tagged with both cloud and jira-cloud.
