How to hide column in Scrum active view ?

v01dv01d March 1, 2023

Hi,

Our tickets have two "lives" : while in the backlog, they are being redacted and refined.

While in the sprint, they are treated.

They follow two distinct workflow, but the Scrum active view is showing ALL the columns used for the two part of their ticket life.

Is there any possibility to hide the "unused" columns (while in active view).

There are some issues addressed, but it seems that they don't progress as fast as a customer would expect :

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-17698

As I mentionned in this ticket, the original ticket was made SEVEN YEARS ago.

Hello @v01dv01d

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

It is not possible to hide a column on the Scrum board. You can hide issues on the board, but not a column.

You could construct a second board that pulls in the same issues, but change the column configuration so that column is not present.

Can you provide screen images to help clarify your scenario, showing what it is you want to hide?

Sure, here you go :

jira_scrumboard_pdo.png

Our subtasks should follow the traditionnal scrum lifecycle : conceived, developped, tested, merged.

But what is shown actually is the lifecycle with our PO team : backlog, fonctionnal refinement, technical refinement, and then we go on the dev part.

What I want here is on this very view to hide the PO columns, as in a daily basis, we only work from tasks with developped status.

We would need first to rework our workflow, as what I describe is not 100% accurate to what is shown, but the idea remains the same.

I hope I am clear ! ;)

The fact is that if I remove some columns, that leaves some status "unmapped", and if I switch to the backlog view, I can't see anymore the "unmapped" statuses.

Yes, that is the way the product is designed to work.

The Backlog and the Board view are based on one filter.

Besides the alternative of creating another board based on a filter that pulls only the issues in the statuses you need, you could change the configuration of the Columns for the existing board. Map all the statuses that you don't care about to one column on the board. That will at least reduce the view to having only one extraneous column.

I like this idea !
Thank you very much for your answer :)

Actually my question was a bit loaded.

The fact is that if I remove some columns, that leaves some status "unmapped", and if I switch to the backlog view, I can't see anymore the "unmapped" statuses.

Why all the views are linked ?
How can I do to see all my tickets in a view and just I need in an active view ?

Hi @v01dv01d

As @Trudy Claspill mentioned you can go to the Board settings and change the columns displayed on the Scrum Board

Hello Ajay and thanks for your answer.
In the screenshot you provide, I don't see any option to hide the column.

It seems possible to edit them, delete them, but not just hide for the scrum active view.

Can you please describe precisely where is the option to hide the columns ?

@v01dv01d , You would need to create 2 boards with each board having the relevant columns .. So in the 1st board I will have columns - related to redacted & the other with refined.
