How to hide specific fields from issues?

Tomer December 29, 2023

I added a "Jira Assignee" field type, which represent the name of the assignee and copied there with automation.

I would like this field to be hidden from Issues, however I can't find how.

I deleted the field from the only place I could find it - the default screen - but it still appears on the issues

If the field is the system-provided assignee field, it is hard-coded to always appear on the issue, you cannot get rid of it.

Hi @Tomer

You can change the screens on the issue type, typically you have Edit, View and Create screens, you may have all three actions default to one screen, you would need to have a screen specific to the View action, and remove the fields you wish to hide from the view screen.

Edit: you can find the operation specific screen within your project, go to Project Settings, then Screens on the left hand side, then you'll see all screen schemes assigned to your project, along with any issue type assigned to those screenschemes, expanding that, you'll see screen per operation, use the pencil icon to the right hand side to edit that.

Thanks Pierre for the answer, but it's still not clear to me.

Could you please help me with step by step instructions?

The step-by-step is already given in Pierre's answer - start by going to project settings and then screens, and follow the rest of what Pierre said.

What I see is the following so I don't understand what I need to change. I have epics, stories, tasks, bugs and sub-issues for al of last 3. I'm not sure why am I only seeing stories on the config screen.

In the last of your screenshots, the screen scheme is telling you "By default, use the 'default screen'".  If you want to associate different screens with different issue types, start adding associations (button at the top right)
