chenxiwang August 31, 2021

With Scriptrunner, is it possible to return the name of who deleted the jira issue?

No this is not possible. You might reach out to Atlassian support and see if they have access to logs that would tell them that but to be honest I wouldn't do that unless it was a really good reason to bother them with it. Too they may not be able to ascertain the answer anyway.

Hi @chenxiwang -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

And also...a need like this to identify deleted issues is why many disable issue delete permissions for Jira Cloud: there is no undo or high visibility to deleted issues.

Instead, Jira admins may add a custom field (e.g. Abandoned) to indicate "no longer needed" issues.  The added benefit is you can report on those issues, and get them back easily by changing the flag value.

Best regards,
Bill

@chenxiwang

Welcome to the community.

Additionally, it is a best practice to remove access to the Delete Issue permission for all users except Jira administrators to reduce the chances of issues being deleted in error. Instead it is a better practice to have a "done" status that can be used for issues you would otherwise delete.
